**RAPETEK EXTRA: GRANDMASTER FLASH (USA)

+ DJ ZEDS, DJ NINJA

Grandmaster Flash needs no introduction. His early steps as a DJ are practically a timeline of hip-hop history in themselves: rocking formative block parties in the Bronx in the late ’70s; becoming one of the first figures to break through internationally—not just as an individual, but as part of the wider hip-hop culture—when his lightning-fast turntable skills were name-checked on Blondie’s “Rapture”; and then, in 1981, releasing the pioneering live-recorded collage of breaks and grooves “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel” (Sugar Hill), a seven-minute masterclass in the “Quick Mix Theory.”

Flash invented the technique, which went on to become the foundation of hip-hop DJing and much of what followed. He demonstrated the same approach on film the following year in Wild Style—and, famously, did so right there in his own kitchen—in a now-iconic scene that would go on to circulate around the world.

Then, of course, there was the seminal early hip-hop collective Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, with their first street hits “Superrappin’” and “Freedom.” In 1982, the entire game changed with the release of “The Message,” the first truly massive hip-hop hit to tackle social issues. But there was a catch: despite the name, Flash had nothing to do with the recording itself. In fact, of the entire Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five lineup, only Melle Mel was involved in its creation.

The group eventually split, briefly reunited, and split again, while Flash continued independently—DJing, producing, lecturing, promoting, writing and doing pretty much everything else you can imagine.

He now comes to Ljubljana with his latest project, “The Four Elements,” a live tribute to each of the fundamental elements of hip-hop, bringing them together on stage in a celebration of the culture he helped build from the ground up.

RAPETEK EXTRA: IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE (USA)

Support: VUKI VUK (Munje, SI), SAMO BORIS (SI)

+ DJ BORKA

Felipe Andres Coronel, better known as Immortal Technique, was born in Lima in 1978, just before the outbreak of Peru’s civil war, and grew up in Harlem. But he’s far from just another rapper from New York. He started rapping at the age of nine and went on to establish himself as an activist, an uncompromising voice of the alternative, a thorn in the side of the mainstream, and a fierce critic of the political and social establishment.

While studying, he spent a year in prison, where he immersed himself in the works of Black and Latin American revolutionaries, from Che Guevara to Malcolm X. After returning to the streets of New York, he quickly made a name for himself in freestyle battles, while relentlessly honing his technique, flow and razor-sharp lyrical craft.

He made his first major mark with the mixtape Revolutionary Vol. 1 (2001). Its combination of minimalist boom bap, technically intricate rhymes, uncompromising lyrics and a heavy political charge earned him underground credibility almost overnight. Recorded quickly, on a minimal budget and released independently, the project laid the foundation for the path he would follow throughout his career. Rather than signing with one of the major labels, he deliberately chose to build his career on his own terms.

This was followed by Revolutionary Vol. 2, The 3rd World and numerous high-profile collaborations. His music tackles subjects ranging from religion, colonialism and institutional racism to class struggle and social inequality. And his convictions extend beyond his lyrics: among other things, he helped fund the construction of an orphanage and school in Afghanistan and regularly takes part in various humanitarian initiatives.

Immortal Technique is an MC who stands behind his words: a top-tier lyricist with a ruthless flow, a “rapper’s rapper” and one of the most uncompromising voices in underground hip-hop worldwide.

Before our guest takes the stage, two Ljubljana underground veterans with very different styles will be warming things up. First up is the raspy-voiced street poet, member of the notorious Munje rec. crew and dark boom-bap specialist Vuki Vuk. Then comes veteran, exceptional lyricist, seasoned stage performer and sharp social critic Samo Boris, who is currently working on his new album Čas med koncem vica in izbruhom smeha.

BALANS (SI): ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT @ Gala hala

Event: 23. 10. 2026 21:00 Add to calendar

BALANS (SI): prisila ne prinese pokoritve — ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT

+ SV. PSETA (SRB)

after: JUPI TER

A new record, a mystical Gala Hala, a cruel world, the same old restlessness. balans are coming to Gala Hala to celebrate the release of their new album prisila ne prinese pokoritve — an ethereal force that refuses to remain trapped between four studio walls and your headphones, demanding a stage, volume and performance.

For the occasion, Gala Hala itself will take on a new form. The space will be transformed into a mystical world created by Serbian artist Veshta Ishtar, turning the concert into a fully immersive visual experience — a landscape where the familiar can suddenly feel strange, and where the line between concert and hallucination begins to blur.

Opening the night will be sv. Pseta, making their Ljubljana debut all the way from Belgrade. Expect just the right amount of noise, energy and Balkan curse to make it perfectly clear that nobody is getting out of this innocent.

For the after, Jupi Ter will take over the DJ booth with a special guitar-energy-inspired selection prepared exclusively for the occasion. No brakes, no rules, no unnecessary questions.

Prepare yourselves for a night where balance is quickly lost.

BALANS: Balans are a Ljubljana-based bunkerpop/art punk duo formed by Andrej Pervanje and Kristin Čona, who have been creating together since 2013. The group occupies a space within the contemporary musical avant-garde, combining the pathos of Yugoslav punk with contemporary performance practices, with parallels stretching from Belgrade to Manchester. They are known for their distinctly artistic approach to both music and visual presentation, frequently collaborating with a wide range of artists, fashion designers and photographers.

SV. PSETA: Sv. Pseta are a Belgrade trio who have already achieved cult status on the local underground scene through a handful of releases. Their sound is unpredictable and untamed, built from a unique blend of instrumental punk, surf, garage rock and noise. They are known for energetic, cathartic performances that quickly pull the audience into their wild and unruly canine playground.

JUPI TER: A Ljubljana-based duo with a soft spot for obscure tracks and a passion for exploring wider musical horizons, Jupi Ter weave together electronic and organic styles, investigating their unusual connections while delivering plenty of infectious pleasure along the way.

POSTER DESIGN: Tina Ocvirk

Music policy: art punk / bunkerpop / garage rock / healthy punk

Admission: €15 presale, €20 on the day of the concert

CODEFENDANTS (USA) @ Gala hala

Event: 03. 11. 2026 20:00 Add to calendar

CODEFENDANTS (USA)

A band is coming to town that’s an explosion of energy, hard-hitting riffs and an unstoppable punk-rap hybrid. Codefendants blur the lines between genres, delivering a raw, honest and socially charged live show that leaves absolutely no room for indifference.

Fat Mike (NOFX) started a new project, joining forces with Sam King (Get Dead) and rapper Julio “Ceschi” Ramos. Three seasoned musicians from the punk and hip-hop worlds, united by a desire to bring together the genres they love—punk (rock) and hip-hop—and enrich them with a whole range of other musical influences.

The result is a unique and seriously hard-to-pin-down sound that moves between hip-hop, new wave, punk rock, electronics, Latin rhythms and plenty more. They’ve dubbed the genre crime wave. The lyrics draw heavily from everyday life, dragging various outsiders and outcasts into the spotlight, along with addiction, war, poverty, twisted political games, loneliness—in other words, the inconvenient fact that life isn’t exactly a piece of cake for everyone.

They may not have been around for all that long, but they’ve quickly made a name for themselves with their uncompromising approach and powerful stage presence. Which means it won’t be long before we get our chance to get blown away on the sunny side of the Alps as well!

Music policy: punk rock / hip hop / new wave / electronica / latino / indie / crime wave

Admission: €23 presale, €28 on the day of the concert
