Festival Grounded 2026 approaches militarization not as an isolated military phenomenon, but as the increasingly dominant logic shaping contemporary life. Across land, sea and air, across borders, in schools, hospitals, infrastructure and the public imagination, militarization now extends far beyond the battlefield.

At a time marked by the expansion of armed conflicts, record-breaking military spending and the normalization of war preparedness, we are witnessing profound shifts in political priorities and the future of our societies. Institutions once created to protect us from the devastation of war have been weakened or pushed aside, while public resources are increasingly redirected toward armament and security regimes. Europe’s growing investment in militarization – framed through concepts such as preparedness, resilience and protection – represents not only a defence strategy, but also an emerging model of development with far-reaching social, economic, ecological and ethical consequences.

Grounded asks who benefits from this militarized direction, who bears its costs, and whether civil society will remain silent as war preparedness becomes a guiding principle of public life. The festival explores what happens to democracy, solidarity, education, care and struggles for freedom when militarization quietly permeates everyday life and public policy. In response to the unfulfilled promises of “never again” in the face of war, genocide and violence against the planet, Grounded brings together artists, researchers, activists and communities to critically examine how militarized logic is produced and normalized, how it can be resisted, and how we might imagine futures rooted in justice, transnational solidarity, collective security, feminist curiosity and dialogue.

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY

Summer keeps rolling on, and so does our August edition of this genre-defying, alternative-leaning dance night, taking you all the way through to the early hours.

We kick things off outside the entrance to Gala Hala before slipping through the little corridor into the club, where the real mission begins: conquering the dancefloor. Hydration breaks are entirely up to you, while DJ Torulsson relentlessly serves one classic after another.

Expect a selection of well-known—and pleasantly forgotten—alternative gems from past decades. This time, the soundtrack comes with an extra dose of drama, poetry, darkness, emotion, and one unmistakably deep voice.

Who will be taking centre stage tonight?

DORA TOMORI

“Aranžirano Cvetje” Tour

One of the most resonant voices of Ljubljana’s melancholy, Dora Tomori, returns to Slovenia this summer with her second solo tour: “Aranžirano Cvetje” (Arranged Flowers).

At each concert, the singer-songwriter will present both familiar favourites and new material, accompanied by her unique live arrangements and a distinctive band setup. On 27 August at Gala Hala, songs such as “Mosquito Bite”, “New Religion” and “Everything” will be performed one last time this year with the support of her regular band—leaving their mark as summer comes to a close.

Welcome everyone who starts sneezing when spring arrives, and everyone who knows someone who doesn’t. No need to overthink it.

This summer edition marks one year of GHETTO BABES!!

By now we know this vibe is no accident.

We’ll kick things off early in the beautiful Gala Hala Summer Garden with outstanding music, special performances, and a few extra surprises before moving inside for a proper all-night celebration.

This time we’re thrilled to welcome MOLEKULA, Slovenia’s most badass—and unquestionably most ghetto—drag king. The soundtrack for the night will be delivered by high priestess 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐚, disco princess 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚, footwork specialist 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐧, and, naturally, your favourite spaceship captain, Raketa.

Alongside the music, the evening features a special performance by our beloved Kegljeve vaje crew, while MOLEKULA won’t just be hosting the event—they’ll also bring a performance of their own.

Returning once again is the wonderful crystal artist Eka with her 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐆𝐞𝐦𝐬 corner, where you can decorate your smile with crystal gem sets created especially for this event.

As always, our friends from the 𝐑𝐞𝐣𝐯 𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐣𝐚 Awareness Team (the babes in pink suspenders) will be present throughout the night. A Ljubljana hillster duo blending punk, black metal, folk, vaporwave, and electronic music

The most popular Slovenian pastime is hiking—and for this beloved national tradition, hillster duo pl@ža have created a postmodern musical experience.

The starting point of pl@ža’s hiking expedition lies somewhere between a creative space at a rural homestead above Črni graben and a house in Dravlje and an apartment in Šiška. The duo’s journey began in 2024, when the founding members decided during improvisational sessions to start a punk band. In 2025, this adventure resulted in the album Hibrid, which reached 7th place on Radio Študent’s list of the best domestic albums of the year, praised for its “impulsive rawness, emotional unpredictability, and therefore even greater authenticity.”

Throughout the album’s journey, pl@ža explore a postmodern collision of contrasts: urban and rural, millennial and zoomer, classical and avant-garde, synthetic and organic, harsh and gentle.

Through punk, black metal, folk influences, vaporwave, and electronic music, pl@ža create their own version of “slovenia-core”—a soundscape of longing for the past, navigating the unavoidable present, and imagining a dystopian future.
